Pratt & Whitney Honors Five Engineers as Distinguished Engineers of the Year

Pratt & Whitney and the Hartford chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) honored five Distinguished Engineers of the Year during National Engineers Week. ASME issues Distinguished Engineers of the Year awards to recognize and promote excellence in the field of Engineering. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.

"Recipients of the Engineer of the Year Award represent the value superior engineering can bring to the people, products and performance that define 'Dependable Engines'," said Tom Prete, vice president, Engineering, Pratt & Whitney. "The five engineers selected by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers are truly some of our most innovative minds, and they deserve to be recognized for their contributions to the field of Engineering."

This year's Pratt & Whitney Distinguished Engineers of the Year are Bill Hastings, chief program engineer, F119 program; Ted Mattern, validation manager, PW1500G program; Eric Hudson, Component Integrated Product Team (CIPT) leader, Advanced Military Turbines; Wangen Lin, senior fellow of welding, Core Manufacturing Engineering; and Martin Walsh, deputy director, Cold Section Engineering, Mechanical Systems.

"The PurePower® engine would not be the same without Ted, Wangen, and Marty contributing to our Engineering team," said Prete. "On the military engine side, Bill and Eric have led significant advances in the capabilities of military aviation. Each and every one of them deserves this honor."

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is a not-for-profit organization that represents more than 150 countries and 130,000 members, including college students and young engineers, to senior researchers and executives.
