US Ambassador to China visits CQ factory

HANGZHOU, China June 10, 2016 — U.S Ambassador to China Max Baucus recently visited the Otis Electric facility in Chongqing hosted by Xizi Otis (Chongqing) Elevator Company to better understand how the company is leveraging digital technologies to improve its global competitiveness. Otis Electric is a brand of Otis Elevator Company, which is a part of Otis, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

“China’s Industry 4.0 strategy, led by intelligent manufacturing, is an invaluable resource for enterprises engaged in transformation and innovation,” Baucus said. “Otis Electric has seized this opportunity and actively made use of the internet and new technologies to create added value for its customers.”

The Ambassador’s delegation was accompanied on its tour of the Otis Electric showroom and workshop by Otis China President Perry Zheng, Otis Electric and Xizi Otis President Lawrence Chui; Piper Stover, United Technologies vice president, China, and Michael Lee, Otis Electric Marketing and Communications director.

“With a focus on technology and people, Otis has a strong legacy driving innovation to develop customer-focused products and solutions,” Zheng said. “This spirit is also shared by Otis Electric, a subsidiary brand of Otis in China.”

Introduced to China early this year, Otis Electric provides reliable solutions and services to meet the needs of residential, commercial and public infrastructure segments. The first Otis Electric elevators were installed in March in Shanghai, and the first batch of escalators was delivered to Beijing in April. Otis Electric will also support the upcoming G20 Summit in China in partnership with the Hangzhou Municipal Administration of Quality and Technology Supervision.

Chui, the Otis Electric president, briefed the ambassador on the new brand’s progress and outlined its initiatives to establish a sound sales and service network, integrate people-oriented technologies, and build a brand with values of safety, energy savings and reliability.

During the visit, Baucus praised Otis Electric’s development in China. He also exchanged views with several Otis Electric employees, including front-line factory workers and a team leader. He observed that every employee on the Otis production line is an important founder of the brand with a vital role to play in its continuing growth.
