TIANJIN, China, Feb. 3, 2016 - Otis Elevator China Co., Ltd. (“Otis China”) will supply 63 elevators at 27 stations on the new, 36-kilometer Line 6 of the Wuhan Metro. This is the fourth time Wuhan Metro Group has selected Otis China to provide elevators and escalators for a new line. Otis, the world’s largest manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
In addition to Otis escalators and flagship Gen2 elevators, Wuhan Metro Line 6 will also deploy Otis Metro Maintenance Management System (OM3S), a professional around-the-clock service solution developed by Otis especially for metro customers. Introduced to China in 2013, Otis China has OM3S offices in several cities where key national transport hubs are located. These offices are staffed by Otis China mechanics to provide timely service support to metro customers.
“Otis China is honored to continue serving Wuhan Metro with reliable elevators, escalators and service support,” said Tony Black, president, Otis Elevator (China) Investment Co., Ltd (OCL). “We are committed to supporting Wuhan’s city development by providing convenience and comfort for the riding public.”
The Wuhan Metro network currently stretches 123.4 kilometers with Lines 1, 2, 3 and 4 in operation. Line 6 will add an extra 36 kilometers of track. When completed later this year, it will link with the urban rail transit system at 11 stations, forming a more extensive circular transport network to serve the city.
Otis China and Wuhan Metro first began working together in 2003 when Line 1 was put into operation with 38 Otis escalators. Now, lines 1, 3 and 4 are served by a total of 92 Otis elevators and escalators. With an additional 63 units being deployed on Line 6, the Wuhan Metro network will be equipped with 155 Otis elevators and escalators to provide reliable service for up to 95,000 passengers a day.
