BEIJING, June 4, 2015 - Otis Elevator (China) Investment Co. Ltd. will sponsor the donation of nearly 30,000 trees this year in continued support of the China Green Foundation’s “One Elevator One Tree” program. Otis China, a supporter of the program since its launch four years ago, has sponsored the planting of more than 1,500 acres of forest in Hebei and Gansu provinces, Beijing, Chongqing and Tianjin. Otis is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX)
The “One Elevator One Tree” program was launched in July 2011 with the aim of restoring barren land to a greener landscape and, in some instances, for agricultural use. As a supporter of China Green Foundation, Otis China sponsors the planting of a tree for each elevator or escalator it sells in China. Forests supported by Otis span across the Yellow River and the Yangtze River Basin, Beijing-Tianjin Shelter Forest and Gansu and Guizhou provinces.
“Afforestation is an investment for the future,” said Chen Peng, deputy secretary-general of China Green Foundation. “It plays a vital role in environmental protection and ecological balance with potential economic benefits contributing to the community well-being as a whole. We treasure the support of companies like Otis China to conservation programs like ‘One Elevator One Tree.’”
“Our support of this program is another example of Otis’ continued commitment to sustainability as a guiding principle for everything we do, from products that reduce energy consumption to our green factories,” added Tony Black, president, Otis Elevator (China) Investment Co. Ltd.
