Pratt & Whitney’s North Berwick, Maine, facility received JMG’s “Above & Beyond” Partnership Award during the nonprofit’s Career Development Conference opening ceremonies March 28 at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine, in recognition of 20 years of JMG support. Leo Dionne, manager, Quality, Pratt & Whitney, North Berwick, accepted the award on behalf of the company. Attendees included some 600 JMG students and dozens of guests from State's business and education communities.
“North Berwick has a longstanding history of supporting and partnering with Maine’s educational community,” said Mike Papp, vice president, Manufacturing & Module Center Operations, and former general manager, Pratt & Whintey, North Berwick. “Our relationship with JMG is one of our longest continuous community partnerships and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to Maine’s student population.”
In a letter to the company announcing the award, JMG President and CEO Craig Larrabee noted it was in recognition of a 20-year commitment to improving the lives of Maine students. Larrabee added that Pratt & Whitney has been a lead supporter of JMG’s Student Enrichment Program that takes students out of the classroom and offers real-life, in-depth learning opportunities. Pratt & Whitney also has hosted JMG student tours at its facility.
JMG partners with public middle and high schools, community colleges as well as the university system to inspire and motivate students through a variety of adventure-based and experiential learning activities that connect them to employers and community-based organizations outside of school. JMG serves more than 6,500 students in more than 90 programs in communities across Maine’s 16 counties.
