“We should always keep our eyes open for opportunities to improve or innovate.”
That is the mantra of Alina Serrano. In her three years with UTC Aerospace Systems, she has worked on important initiatives including managing the purchasing for major accounts. Now she has set even bigger goals and is pursuing a master’s degree in supply chain management to achieve them. “I also want to do this for my family,” she says. “I would be the first to complete this level of education. They would be so proud.”
While studying at the University of San Diego, Alina also is leading a study that could yield big savings for UTC Aerospace Systems.
As she explains, “I’m conducting a cost analysis of inventory movement between our warehouses in Chula Vista, California, and Toulouse, France. We’re looking at methods to optimize the ways we move parts, which could lead to reduced shipping charges, saving us a significant amount of money.”
But that’s not all. “Studies like the one I’m doing help advance the company’s commitment to innovation. If someone says we’ve been doing a job this way for years, that’s not good enough. We need to always be looking for ways to improve or innovate.”
