United Technologies recognized for longstanding commitment to JDRF

United Technologies was recently recognized by JDRF for its longstanding commitment at the 25th anniversary Promise Ball in East Hartford, Conn. Chairman & CEO Greg Hayes accepted the 2019 Star of Hope Award on behalf of United Technologies. During the event, UTC proudly shared the story of Amelie Lewis and Chris DeRose who were both diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Amelie‚Äôs parents, Ben and Meredith Lewis, are Pratt & Whitney and Otis employees. Chris is a Collins Aerospace employee.

Involvement of UTC employees in JDRF events has grown exponentially over the last five years, growing from 25 to more than 150 employees. In total, UTC and its business units have donated and raised more than $1.1 million for JDRF.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. T1D is an autoimmune disease in which the body destroys insulin producing cells. It cannot be prevented and, at present, has no cure. JDRF’s mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.
