Lenel ILS – The First Offline and Wireless Electromechanical Lock developed for OnGuard®

Lenel Systems International recently introduced Lenel ILS, the first integrated electromechanical locking system specifically engineered to be configured, programmed and managed directly from Lenel’s OnGuard® total security management solution.

Available in both offline and wireless variants, Lenel ILS extends a security system’s reach by bringing traditional OnGuard® access control functionality to electromechanical locks – allowing users to secure more doors within a facility from one security platform, while providing real-time priority alerts and centralized management of cardholders. Integration with OnGuard® allows users to manage all access control functions from a single application and eliminates the need for traditional lock and key.

Lenel ILS was developed in response to customers’ requests for a complementary system to traditional online card readers that is cost-effective, secure, and manageable from the OnGuard system.

The Lenel ILS platform is modular in design, providing users with flexibility to choose the network connectivity, credential type and reader technology that best fits their business. Should needs change, both reader type and wireless connectivity can easily be upgraded. The platform also allows phased-in implementation, making it possible to start on a small scale without outfitting the entire facility at once.

Unlike other solutions available, Lenel ILS offers decision-making at the lock. In fact, a Lenel ILS locks allow facilities to continue operation and secure rooms even in emergencies – for up to 5,000 cardholders. Lenel ILS continues to operate, grant or deny access, and perform even when network connectivity is lost.

In addition to providing maximum security and flexibility, Lenel ILS can significantly reduce installation and equipment costs for interior building doors versus traditional online access control. The Lenel ILS system can reduce costs by more than 60 percent by incorporating three technologies: wireless communications, a proprietary power management system within the lock and radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.

Lenel ILS will be commercially available in June 2010 through Lenel’s Value Added Reseller (VAR) channel.
