United Technologies Announces Commercial Business Leadership Appointment in India

NEW DELHI, India – United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) named Zubin Irani as Senior Managing Director of the corporation’s commercial companies in India. Those United Technologies companies are Carrier, the world’s largest provider of heating and air conditioning equipment and solutions; Otis, the world’s largest provider of elevators and escalators; and UTC Fire & Security, a global provider of fire and security products. Together, these market-leading commercial companies make United Technologies one the world’s largest providers of capital goods and services to the building industry.

India’s demographics and large scale urbanization have accelerated the need for infrastructure modernization. This has resulted in strong customer demand for building solutions that combine leading technology with energy efficiency and represent a significant growth opportunity for United Technologies.

In his new role, Zubin Irani will be responsible for developing and leading strategies to accelerate growth of United Technologies’ commercial companies in India, driving operational effectiveness and the development of local leadership.

In addition to announcing Zubin Irani’s appointment, United Technologies also said it will open its first India headquarters office in Delhi, in June of this year. The new office will serve as a hub to identify partnership opportunities, oversee component localization efforts, develop M&A opportunities and to coordinate customer requests.

Zubin Irani joined UTC in 2005 as Carrier’s Director, Marketing & Strategy - Asia Pacific. In 2006 he expanded his role into general management as Managing Director, Carrier India, providing a deep focus on this unique market. He was named Vice President and Managing Director, Carrier India, in 2008. Prior to United Technologies, Zubin Irani worked for seven years with McKinsey & Company. He has a master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT and a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur .
