Two Pratt & Whitney North Berwick teams recently participated in the Portland International Jetport's Plane Pull, returning for the 11th year to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's fundraiser. During this unique event, FedEx parks its Boeing 757 airplane on the tarmac and teams of 25 are then tasked to pull this more than 72-ton plane a distance of 12 feet in the fastest possible time, using a rope and attached tow bar.

North Berwick teams have won first place six times over the last 11 years. Led by captain Chris Watkins, this year's 25-member team claimed another victory for North Berwick, pulling the plane 12 feet in 4.885 seconds. The team won in the original category of "Fastest Pull" among 16 participating teams.

Additionally, in its second year of competition, North Berwick's Engineering team took first place in a new category: "Lightest Pull." The Engineering team pulled the plane 12 feet in 14.046 seconds with a combined team body weight of only 1,465 lbs. The second-place team pulled the plane in nearly the same amount of time but with 500 lbs. more team weight than the Pratt & Whitney team.

Company pride from every employee on both teams was evident as Pratt & Whitney employees worked together to show what Pratt & Whitney teamwork means.
