New Otis Gen2® Elevator Unveiled in Czech Republic

PRAGUE, Czech Rupublic, June 01, 2016 — The elevator experience is redefined with the Otis New Gen2® elevator recently launched in Czech Republic. Through new interior designs and smart, connected functionality, the New Gen2 elevator cab serves as a fashionable and functional room in the core of the building. Otis, the world’s leading manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Nearly 100 Otis customers attended the recent New Gen2 grand launch at the Žofín Garden in Prague. The event was attended by the Universal Swing Brothers and hosted by Iva Kubelková. The installed LED walls displayed within a full-size Gen2 elevator cab showcased the new interior as well as the latest innovations of the Otis New Gen2 technology.

With more than 400,000 elevator design combinations with new aesthetic concepts unveiled earlier this year, elevator interior design and connectivity become the focus of the elevator experience. The elevators provide opportunity for continuity with the architecture and design of a building, creating a shared space for transporting passengers and providing an experience that contributes to building occupants’ quality of life.

“Elevators are at the heart of buildings,” said Matthias Stickler, managing director, Otis Central Europe. “With these new design possibilities, building managers and designers can now choose a cabin atmosphere tailored for their buildings. More than a transportation space, the elevator is, like the lobby, a mark of a luxury building. With this New Gen2 collection, we sought to make this centerpiece a new and unexpected source of creative expression.”

The New Gen2 is manufactured in Europe with production at facilities in Madrid, Spain and Gien, France. The Czech Republic launch is managed by Otis a.s., the local entity.

Elevator interior design treated as an architectural aspect

Otis worked with designers to create two ambiances, “natural” and “modern.” Among the notable features, the cab interior is lit with indirect LED lighting, integrated in the cab’s four corners to provide an impression of space and depth and highlighting each material’s texture.

Natural ambiance

Inspired by early 20th-century architecture, the natural ambiance creates a harmonious connection between the elevator, hallway and lobby. Priority was given to the use of natural materials such as wood, stone and leather, combined with minimalist forms.

Modern ambiance

In keeping with modern architecture, the modern designs feature materials that convey a high-tech feel and shapes that highlight the combination of metal texture and bright glossy color. The design is sleek and efficient.

An elevator connected to the world in the core of the smart building

The New Gen2 also features integration of multimedia and connected services:

  • - A full HD eView™ screen positioned in the control panel provides real-time information to passengers, such as news, weather and traffic.
  • - Otis’ eCall™ mobile application that allows residents to call the elevator from a distance with their smartphone.
  • - The OneCall™ dashboard on the elevator landing provides intuitive floor selection from outside the elevator.

These design concepts are now available in Czech Republic. For more information about Otis products and services, visit or follow Otis on Twitter @OtisElevatorCo.
