SHANGHAI, June 16, 2015 – Otis Elevator (China) Company Limited has been awarded the New Bund World Trade Center project, providing 113 elevators and escalators for buildings now under construction for the landmark of Shanghai’s new financial district in Pudong. The agreement includes 32 SKYRISE® high-rise elevators, 22 SKY® elevators, 43 GeN2® elevators, 15 escalators and a cargo lift installed in the buildings. Otis is the world’s largest manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, and is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX)
The New Bund World Trade Center is being developed in three phases by Shanghai Lujiazui, a lead developer for the New Bund International Business Zone project, to create a new central business district opposite the historic Shanghai Bund on the Huangpu River. Due for completion in late 2017, the New Bund World Trade Center’s target tenants are top-tier financial and business corporations.
Engineered for tall buildings and skyscrapers, the SKYRISE elevator by Otis offers a rise of more than 600 meters, with single-deck, double-deck and super double-deck configurations. It offers superior passenger experience and energy savings of up to 60 percent compared to traditional elevators. A number of China’s new urban landmarks, including the Tianjin Chow Tai Fook Center and Chengdu Yintai Center, use the SKYRISE elevator system.
“Otis China and the Lujiazui Group have collaborated together for several years, as the Group’s Lujiazui Tangdong Headquarters was the first building in the world to install a SKYRISE elevator,” said Tony Black, president, Otis Elevator (China) Investment Co. Ltd. “This new project continues our well-established business relationship with Lujiazui Group and allows Otis China to contribute to Shanghai’s ongoing development. We are delighted that Otis’ leading technology and products continue to support Shanghai’s sustainable development as a world-class business center.”
Shanghai has more than 1,000 high-rise residential and office buildings, including five super high-rise buildings above 300 meters. The demand for elevators is strong as the city’s construction boom continues, with the New Bund International Business Zone now underway. Announced in 2012, the New Bund International Business Zone will be developed into a world-class central business district and a new city center for Shanghai over the next five to ten years.
