MILAN, May 25, 2015 — Otis Italy has installed five Gen2 elevators in the French Pavilion at the Milan Expo 2015. Consistent with the expo’s sustainability focus, the Otis elevators use the latest technology to reduce energy consumption. Otis is part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
The French Pavilion, built by a consortium that includes C.M.B. of Carpi and C.M.C. of Ravenna, reinterprets the concept of the covered market, employing eco-friendly technologies and materials that reduce energy consumption.
The elevator selection is consistent with this criterion. It includes four Otis Genesis units and one Otis Gen2 Comfort. Both models are from the Gen2 family of elevators. The Otis Gen2 elevator has earned the energy classification “A”, the highest efficiency class rating under VDI 4707 standards, making it a model of green engineering and marking a substantial step toward a more sustainable future.
The Gen2 system uses patented Otis technologies, including composite steel flat belts that replace traditional elevator cables to improve efficiency and ride comfort. The compact Gen2 gearless machine requires minimal machine room space, which allows rapid installation. The system is also designed for maximum efficiency and sustainability. The innovative ReGen™ drive reduces energy consumption by up to 75 percent compared with traditional elevators with conventional drives.
These technical solutions enable Otis Genesis and Otis Gen2 Comfort energy savings up to 50 percent compared to traditional electric elevators, and up to 70 percent compared to hydraulic elevators.
