Carrying forward the Green Shoots initiative, 23 volunteers from the Ernakulam area office visited an SOS Children’s Village at Aluva. The day was spent playing outdoors games that tested the children’s and the employees' physical agility. Five children also were honored that day for their academic performance.
SOS Children’s Villages of India is an independent, non-government, social development organization that provides family-based care to parentless children worldwide. The organization has been in India for more than 50 years.
“The experience transported us back to our own childhood. It was amazing to come away from our daily routine, even though it was only for a short period,” said Vinay Tuteja, General Manager, Southwest India. “As for the kids, we let them lead the teams. It was great to see how they navigated the groups as leaders.”
“It is an honor to be part of the Green Shoots program,” added Deepak Sakthar, Area Manager, Kerala. “It gives us the chance to step back and re-evaluate our role as citizens. It is clear that we can offer so much more to society and those who need us.”
Launched in 2011, the Green Shoots program brings together UTC employees as volunteers to support primary education in Asia.
