At Otis, putting people first isn’t just good for business, it’s part of a passion for creating a more personal, connected world. In the fall of 2017, Otis Brazil challenged employees to deepen their community roots through a new program called Mover. Employees participated in at least one local volunteer activity during the “Week of Opportunities.” Volunteers from across Brazil came together to make a difference in the lives of people in their communities.
Em ployee volunteers from Otis São Paulo Oeste collected food, toiletries, cribs, mattresses, trolleys and a baby bath for the Alliance for Life (ALIVI). ALIVI hosts children and caregivers who come from other cities to start cancer treatment in São Paulo and have nowhere to stay. The institution provides care and shelter during all necessary treatment time. In addition to providing donations, the volunteers held a children's party with arts and crafts, and storytelling for the children.
"We thought that we would help them with the collections, but what a mistake. The beneficiaries were us! We could see how much our problems are smaller, our burden is lighter and how often we forget to thank others," said Thiago Pena, Telesales Consultant.
Other projects included fixing up a day center and assisting with equine therapy for paralyzed children. More than 125 volunteers came together to support various activities at sites across Brazil. With more than 3,000 items donated and hundreds of volunteer hours dedicated to the cause, the Week of Opportunities was a huge success.
“This is how we create opportunities that move people and ideas all over the country. We want to not only move people with our equipment, but also in search of the dreams that they have in life,” said Julio Bellinassi, Managing Director of Otis South America.
United Technologies is focused on creating real and sustainable change in the communities where we live and work. Brazil’s Mover Social Responsibility Program allows employees the opportunity to see the impact of their work right away, and to have an immediate and long-lasting effect on those in need.
