Special Advisor to the Office of the Chairman & CEO

Kelly Ortberg was appointed Special Advisor to United Technologies’ Office of the Chairman & CEO in February 2020. In this role he will help support the office as it prepares to lead the future Raytheon Technologies.

Prior to this role, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Collins Aerospace, a business of United Technologies Corp., which was created in September 2018 through the merger of UTC Aerospace Systems and Rockwell Collins. Ortberg previously served as Chairman, President and CEO of Rockwell Collins where he began his career as a program manager more than 30 years ago. He also previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the company’s Government Systems business from 2010 to 2012 and as Chief Operating Officer of its Commercial Systems business from 2006 to 2010.

Ortberg led Rockwell Collins through the two largest acquisitions in the company’s history with the purchase of B/E Aerospace in 2017 and of ARINC in 2013. He also played a key role in a string of  high-profile program wins across the aerospace and defense industries and led the company to a place on the Fortune 500 list. Under Ortberg’s leadership, Rockwell Collins received a number of high-profile awards, including being named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere Institute and designated as one of America’s Best Large Employers by Forbes. In addition, in 2017 Ortberg was named a Highest Rated CEO by Glassdoor.

Ortberg is the Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of FIRST® and serves on the University of Iowa Engineering Advisory Board. He also serves on the Board of Governors of the Aerospace Industries Association. A native of Dubuque, Iowa, he received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa.
